EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Sobriety Checkpoint In Stone County


Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Stone County, on September 14, 2013. During the operation, officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Stone County Sheriff's Department were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint in a continued effort to remove intoxicated drivers from the highways. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

8 --Failure To Wear Seat Belt Citations
1 --Driver License Violation
2 --Insurance Violations
2 --Non-Moving Traffic Offenses
1 --Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest
1 -- Felony Warrant Arrest

Officers also issued 14 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.

"The objective of DWI enforcement projects is to deter drinking and driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated," stated Captain Villanueva. Someone is killed or injured in an alcohol-related crash every two hours in Missouri. Alcohol was involved in 28% of all fatal crashes during 2012. Drunk drivers killed 229 people and injured 3,869 in Missouri traffic crashes last year.

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
