EMPHASIS: July 4 Weekend Enforcement Totals

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the 2016 July Fourth holiday traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop C area. Troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during the holiday weekend. As an added enforcement effort, Troop C officers conducted a holiday travel crash reduction operation on Interstate 70 and Interstate 44.

The counting period began at 6 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2016, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, July 4, 2016. Troopers investigated 100 traffic crashes in which one person died and 52 were injured, as well as one boating crash. Troopers arrested 21 people for driving while intoxicated and two people were arrested for boating while intoxicated. Other enforcement totals are as follow:

Total motor vehicle crashes investigated -- 100

“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and please take the job of driving seriously. Obey the speed limit, pay attention, buckle up, and do not drink and drive,” stated Captain Johnson.

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
