EMPHASIS: Troop G To Conduct Special Enforcement Projects In May

Captain Billy E. Chadwick, commanding officer of Troop G, Willow Springs, announces that a sobriety checkpoint will be held in Reynolds County sometime in the month of May. The Missouri State Highway Patrol in cooperation with other area law enforcement agencies will conduct the checkpoint.

Sobriety checkpoints are part of the Patrol’s efforts to remove careless and intoxicated drivers from Missouri’s highways, and are conducted at various locations, which have been found to experience a higher than normal number of alcohol-related contacts, hazardous driving contacts, and traffic crashes.

Troop G will also participate in a program designed to provide maximum manpower during the travel days of the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The program, known as “10-mile Trooper Project”, is designed to provide a trooper at least every 10 miles on designated highways. The designated highway in Troop G is U.S. Highway 60. The dates of the program are May 28, 2010, and May 31, 2010. Troopers will be targeting all traffic violations, and will be especially vigilant regarding speed, careless and imprudent driving, and aggressive driving violations. Troopers will be observing a zero tolerance policy for motorists who are stopped for a traffic violation and are not wearing a seat belt.

Captain Chadwick says, “The use of special enforcement projects enable the Missouri State Highway Patrol to enhance our efforts in removing drugged, intoxicated, and careless drivers from our roadways. Please, drive carefully and never drink or take drugs and drive.”
