EMPHASIS: Troop C Announces Driving While Intoxicated Checkpoint Results In Jefferson County
Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, St. Louis, is pleased to announce the results of a driving while intoxicated checkpoint that was conducted March 14, 2009, in Jefferson County in conjunction with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. During the six-hour enforcement project, 11 officers focused their attention on detecting intoxicated drivers that traveled through the checkpoint location in an effort to reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes.
As a result of the enforcement program, a total of 18 arrests were made and 79 warnings were issued. Of those arrests, four individuals were arrested for driving while intoxicated and two were arrested on outstanding warrants. In addition, two were cited for non-moving violations, two for seat belt violations, and five for driver’s license violations. Additionally, three drug arrests were made. During the six-hour operation, 185 vehicles passed through the checkpoint.
Captain Johnson stated, “Impaired drivers continue to contribute to the number of traffic crashes and the loss of lives on our highways. Removing impaired drivers from our roadways is vital to reducing traffic crashes, and a job we take seriously. Please remember to drive safely, wear your seat belt, and always designate a sober driver.”
