EMPHASIS: Troop I to Conduct Special Enforcement Projects in August

Captain Randy Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that troopers will conduct special enforcement operations in Laclede and Pulaski counties during the month of August, which targets hazardous traffic violations committed by the operators of commercial motor vehicles. Troopers assigned to these operations will be patrolling Interstate 44 and will be watching specifically for any careless or aggressive driving practices committed by the drivers of commercial vehicles that if undetected, could result in a traffic crash.
“Last year a person was killed or injured in a commercial vehicle-related traffic crash in the state of Missouri every 1.7 hours,” stated Captain Becker. There were many causes for these crashes, but some could have been prevented if the driver of the commercial vehicle would not have been speeding, following too closely, or making an improper lane change. I encourage all motorists to strictly obey all traffic laws as we work together in continuing to make Missouri’s highways safer.”
