EMPHASIS: Hannibal Resident Arrested On Drug Charges
On June 16, 2007, at approximately 12:10 a.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a 1989 Jeep Comanche at a sobriety checkpoint being conducted on Missouri Highway 79 and Union Street, in Hannibal, Missouri. During the traffic stop, the officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. The driver, David W. Harris, 21, of Hannibal, Missouri, was later found to be in possession of approximately 50 grams of marijuana. A subsequent search of the vehicle also revealed drug paraphernalia.
Harris was arrested for felony possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance (marijuana) and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Marion County Jail and was released after posting a bond.
The charges for which Harris was arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
