EMPHASIS: Interstate 64 Memorial Dedication Honoring Fallen Sergeant Joseph G. Schuengel


Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, would like to announce that on Friday, October 21, 2011, a ceremony will be conducted to dedicate a portion of Interstate 64 as a memorial highway honoring Sergeant Joseph G. Schuengel. Sergeant Schuengel died in the line of duty on October 15, 2010.

Dedication ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m. at the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop C Headquarters, located at 891 Technology Drive, Weldon Spring, Missouri. This ceremony will honor Sergeant Joseph Schuengel who tragically lost his life when the helicopter he was piloting crashed. Sergeant Schuengel was the 29th member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to lose his life in the line of duty.

House Bill 798 establishes the Sergeant Joseph G. Schuengel Memorial Highway on I-64 from Boone's Crossing overpass west to the Spirit of St. Louis overpass in St. Louis County. The bill was signed by Governor Jay Nixon on July 14, 2011.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
