EMPHASIS: Troop F Prepares For The July 4th Holiday Weekend

Captain Michael A. Turner, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, MO, announces upcoming plans for Troop F officers to participate in Operation C.A.R.E. and 20-Mile Trooper enforcement programs for the July Fourth Holiday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during the holiday. This means every available officer will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and helping motorists in need of assistance.

Additionally, Troop F officers will be conducting a 20-Mile Trooper project to maximize visibility on Interstate 70 in the Troop F area on Thursday, July 2, 2015, and Sunday, July 5, 2015. During this enforcement program, troopers will be assigned to 20-mile intervals in an effort to enforce all traffic violations, and emphasizing aggressive driving violations, with a goal of reducing traffic crashes over the holiday weekend.

“Many motorists will be traveling over the holiday weekend, and we want everyone traveling on Missouri roadways to be safe,” stated Captain Turner. “Make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained and never drink and drive. Should you be celebrating the holiday on the water, I want to remind everyone to ensure they are wearing an approved life jacket while in a vessel and don’t operate a vessel while drinking."

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
