EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces Holiday Arrest And Crash Totals

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in South Central Missouri. The counting period began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, November 30, 2014.
During the 2014 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Troop I officers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). On Wednesday and Sunday, during peak travel times, Troop I officers also participated in the 20-Mile Trooper campaign on Interstate 44, and dedicated additional manpower to patrolling secondary highways. While participating in these operations, Troop I officers investigated 18 traffic crashes, which resulted in 10 injuries and one fatality. Troopers also made eight arrests for DWI and six arrests for drug violations. Troop I officers issued 231 citations for speed, 81 citations for failure to wear a seat belt, and six citations for not having a child in a proper passenger restraint system. Over the extended holiday period, troopers also issued 542 warnings for various traffic offenses and assisted 172 motorists.
Captain Remillard stated, “I hope the remainder of the holiday season is both safe and joyful for you and your family. Please remember, as you travel Missouri’s roads and highways, if you need to report a traffic crash, observe a serious traffic violation, or want to report an emergency dial *55 on your cellular phone to contact the nearest Missouri State Highway Patrol troop headquarters.”
In support of “The Drive To Zero Highway Deaths,” the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
