EMPHASIS: March Enforcement Projects Scheduled For Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces that sometime during the month of March, Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) SAFETE enforcement projects will be conducted in Greene and Lawrence counties. During the operations, troopers and officers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division will be concentrating their efforts on locating commercial vehicles being operated in an unsafe manner, as well as drivers committing hazardous moving violations. Enforcement efforts will be focused on high crash corridors and in high risk areas, such as rural roads or highway work zones, as well as areas along the Interstate 44 corridor known to have a history of criminal activity and a high propensity for commercial vehicle violations.

Additionally, during the month, Troop D officers will conduct two DWI enforcement saturations in Christian and Newton counties, and a DWI sobriety checkpoint in Greene County. The areas selected for enforcement are based on a high number of drinking-related crashes, high number of contacts with drivers who have been drinking, and officers’ input as to probable contact with DWI violators.

“The Missouri State Highway Patrol is committed to removing unsafe drivers from our highways,” said Captain Villanueva. “Enforcement projects, saturations, and sobriety checkpoints are part of the Patrol’s strategy to make Missouri’s roadways safer.”

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
