EMPHASIS: Troop I Releases Labor Day Weekend Traffic Crash And C.A.R.E Totals


Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the traffic crash and arrest totals for Troop I during the Labor Day weekend counting period. This year’s counting period began at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, September 2, 2013.
During that period, troopers assigned to the six counties that comprise Troop I investigated 18 traffic crashes that resulted in six injuries and no fatalities. Troop I officers also made two arrests for driving while intoxicated. Over the same holiday period last year, troopers assigned to Troop I investigated 22 crashes that resulted in five injuries and no fatalities. Troop I officers made five DWI arrests last year over the Labor Day weekend counting period.
As a part of “Operation C.A.R.E.” (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) over the holiday weekend, Troop I officers issued 313 citations for speed, 110 citations for seat belt violations, and three citations for child restraint violations. Troopers also assisted 174 motorists and issued 660 warnings.
Captain Kenley stated, “I hope the summer of 2013 was both enjoyable and safe for your family. Please help us keep our highways safe by following the rules of the road and always being a courteous driver.”
The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
