EMPHASIS: Results Of Commercial Motor Vehicle Selective Traffic Enforcement Operation Conducted In Macon County
Captain John W. Elliott, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the results of a Commercial Motor Vehicle Selective Traffic Enforcement Operation conducted in Macon County.
On May 1, 2008, Troop B conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle Selective Traffic Enforcement Operation on U.S. Highway 36, two miles east of Callao, Missouri, in Macon County. During the six-hour operation, nine Troop B officers and four commercial motor vehicle officers, along with a Missouri State Highway Patrol canine, deputies from the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, and a Missouri State Water Patrol officer, checked 162 commercial motor vehicles, and completed a total of 23 CVE inspections.
As a result of the enforcement operation, 22 citations and 57 warnings were issued. In addition, one driver and two commercial vehicles were placed out of service. Of those citations issued, 18 were issued for commercial motor vehicle violations, one was issued for a non-moving violation, two were issued for license violations, and one was issued for an insurance violation.
Employees of the Missouri State Highway Department also assisted with the enforcement operation by providing traffic assistance with a warning truck and traffic cones.
“Ensuring that commercial motor vehicles traveling on Missouri highways are being operated properly is another important factor in keeping our highways safe,” stated Captain Elliott. “Troop B officers will be working with other local law enforcement agencies in other operations such as these throughout the upcoming year.”
