EMPHASIS: Troop I Labor Day Weekend Enforcement Totals

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, Rolla, announces the 2015 Labor Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area. Troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during the holiday weekend. As an added enforcement effort, Troop I officers also conducted a special enforcement operation on Interstate 44. Troopers investigated 29 traffic crashes resulting in 10 injuries and one fatality.

The 2015 Labor Day holiday weekend counting period was from 6 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2015 through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2015. Enforcement totals are as follows:

Speed -- 251 summonses
Seat Belt -- 117 summonses
Child Restraint -- 11 summonses
Other Traffic Related Violations -- 142 summonses
Driving While Intoxicated Arrests -- 10
Drug Arrests -- 3
Warnings -- 683
Motorist Assists -- 253

âEven though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and please take the job of driving very seriously. Obey the speed limits, pay attention, buckle up, and do not drink and drive,â stated Captain Remillard.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
