EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces Labor Day Weekend Accident And C.A.R.E. Totals

Captain Randy Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the traffic crash and arrest totals for Troop I during the Labor Day weekend counting period. This year’s counting period began at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2007, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, September 3, 2007.
During that period, troopers assigned to the six counties that comprise Troop I, investigated 19 traffic crashes that resulted in eight injuries and no fatalities. Troop I officers also made seven arrests for driving while intoxicated. Over the same holiday period last year, troopers assigned to Troop I investigated 28 crashes that resulted in 10 injuries and one fatality. Troop I officers made 11 DWI arrests last year over the Labor Day weekend counting period.
As a part of “Operation C.A.R.E.” (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) over the holiday weekend, Troop I officers issued 211 citations for speeding, 60 for seat belt violations, and two for child restraint violations. Troopers also assisted 126 motorists.
Captain Becker stated, “The reduction in the number of crashes compared to last year and the absence of any fatalities in the Troop I area this year over the holiday period was welcomed news. I encourage all motorists to continue to obey the rules of the road and to always drive defensively as we strive to reduce fatalities on our highways.”
