EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop On Interstate 70 Results In Drug Arrest

On May 17, 2007, at approximately 2:10 p.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu traveling east on Interstate 70 in Warren County for a traffic violation.
The trooper detected the odor of marijuana in the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a Wal-Mart plastic bag located on the rear floorboard of the vehicle, containing marijuana and cocaine. The driver, Forrest H. Gipson, 40, and passenger, Darlene Lemmons, 46, both of Kansas City, Missouri, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and taken to the Warren County Jail.
The charges for which Forrest H. Gipson and Darlene Lemmons were arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
