Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee's Summit, would like to invite area media representatives to the Troop A Headquarters in Lee's Summit, Missouri, at 1 p.m., on Thursday, April 18, 2013, to view the Patrol's new traffic safety video entitled, "Gone Too Soon."
The new traffic safety video, created by the Patrol's Audio-Visual Unit, is 15 minutes in length and uses photographs, music, and testimonials from traffic crash victims and family members. Mr. and Mrs. Cockrill and Miss Megan Wagoner, all from Platte City, MO, are featured in the video, which includes a segment about a 2010 fatal crash in Platte County involving their daughter and friend, Abby Cockrill. Mr. and Mrs. Cockrill and Ms. Wagoner will be attend the video presentation on April 18.
Roush-Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards also speaks to the audience in the video. Mr. Edwards discusses the importance of paying attention when driving. The video focuses on risky behaviors behind the wheel, such as: drinking and driving, failure to use occupant restraints, inattentive driving, texting, and speeding.
The video is a collaborative effort between the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ameren Missouri, Bloomsdale Excavating Co. Inc., Missouri Farm Bureau, Operation Lifesaver, and State Farm Insurance. It is being released in April in time for the message to be shared prior to high school proms and graduations.
