EMPHASIS: 13th Annual Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive Kickoff

Captain Scott A. Shipers, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces the kickoff of the 13th Annual Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive. The toy drive will begin on November 19, 2015, and will run through December 9, 2015.

The Trooper Michael L. Newton Toy Drive is the cooperative effort of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and the citizens we serve. The drive is designed to bring smiles to the faces of children who are forced to spend the Christmas holiday season in the hospital. All donations to the toy drive will be delivered to children at KU Medical Center and the Ronald McDonald House. Troopers will deliver the toys personally to the children during the month of December.

Toy donations may be made at all metro area Krispy Kreme Doughnut stores. Krispy Kreme will again give away a free dozen doughnuts to anyone who donates a new toy with a value of at least $10. Donations of electronic games, board games, and new children’s books are encouraged. This annual toy drive honors Trooper Michael L. Newton, who died in the line of duty in 2003. His death left a huge void in the lives of his family, friends, and co-workers.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Join us in supporting the Drive To Zero Highway Deaths. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
