EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Lincoln County

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Saturday evening, July 18, 2015. The checkpoint was held from 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, to 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2015, and was located at Missouri Highway 47 and Missouri Highway 147 in Lincoln County. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 513 vehicles were stopped during this five-hour operation. Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol made the following enforcement contacts:

7 -- DWI arrests
2 -- seat belt summonses
2 -- driving while revoked summonses
4 -- non-moving summonses
3 -- uninsured motorists summonses
14 -- warrant arrests
70 -- warnings

Captain Johnson stated, "The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

To report a suspected impaired driver dial 9-1-1 or *55 on a cell phone.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal traffic crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
