EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Jackson County On March 17, 2013


Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Sunday evening, March 17, 2013. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. The checkpoint was held from 7 p.m. on Sunday to 1 a.m. on Monday and was located at Southwest Trafficway at 39th Street. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 1,127 vehicles were stopped during this six-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following arrests:

27 -- DWI
5 -- driver’s license summonses
3 -- non-moving traffic violations
1 -- hazardous moving violation
6 -- misdemeanor drug arrests
2 -- misdemeanor warrant arrests
1 -- misdemeanor stealing arrest

Captain Powell stated, "The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
