EMPHASIS: Hazardous Weather Conditions

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A Headquarters in Lee’s Summit, wants to remind the motoring public to be cognizant of the extremely cold temperatures Missouri will be experiencing over the next few days.

Emergencies cannot be predicted, but planning for them can help you if one should arise. Before you travel, make sure your car has a full tank of gas and has been winterized. Also, have an ice scraper, tire chains, flashlight, battery booster cables, blankets, and ensure your cellular phone is fully charged. If you become stranded or see another vehicle stranded on the side of the road with passengers, please call the Missouri State Highway Patrol emergency number at 1-800-525-5555 or dial *55 on a cellular phone. These numbers will contact the nearest troop headquarters.

Captain Powell stated, “Troop A troopers routinely patrol primary roadways looking for, and assisting stranded motorists. However, due to these extremely cold temperatures it is paramount we provide assistance as soon as possible. So, should you become stranded, or see someone stranded, please call the Highway Patrol immediately.”

Planning ahead and being a courteous driver are important every day. In winter driving conditions, this becomes crucial. Please, slow down, pay attention, and wear your seat belt. Of course, no matter how safely you drive, you can’t control other drivers. Thus, the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves from all types of hazardous drivers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
