EMPHASIS: Troop F Announces Results of DWI Sobriety Checkpoint In Cole County

Captain Michael A. Turner, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, announces the results of a DWI sobriety checkpoint conducted in Cole County. The checkpoint was conducted from 11 p.m. on September 26, to 3 a.m. on September 27, 2015, on U.S. Highway 50, east of the Apache Flats exit.

The STARS database indicates at least 72 alcohol-related traffic crashes occurred in Cole County in calendar year 2014. A total of 337 vehicles were checked during this operation. Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol made the following enforcement contacts:

9 -- DWI arrests
1 -- No valid driver’s license summons
5 -- Driving while suspended/revoked summonses
1 -- Seat belt violation summons
1 -- Stop sign violation summons
1 -- No insurance summons
3 -- Misdemeanor drug arrests
1 -- Misdemeanor warrant arrest
3 -- Warnings issued

“The sobering fact is that impaired driving contributes to nearly 25 percent of all Missouri fatal crashes." stated Captain Turner. "The Missouri State Highway Patrol is very serious about removing the impaired driver from our roadways. If drinking is a part of your plans, choose a sober designated driver."

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
