On May 28, 2016, at the request of Tipton Police Chief Edward Wiecken, members of the Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, Troop F, began conducting an investigation into the death of Robert Ashbaugh, 18, of Tipton, Missouri.

On Saturday evening, May 28, 2016, at approximately 11:20 p.m. officers responded to 420 Railroad Avenue, in Tipton, Missouri, in reference to a person suffering a gunshot wound. Officers of the Tipton Police Department arrived at the residence minutes after receiving the call and it was determined Mr. Ashbaugh was deceased.

Preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Ashbaugh was shot by an acquaintance during horseplay involving a firearm. Mr. Ashbaugh was transported to the University of Missouri Hospital, in Columbia, Missouri, at the request of the Moniteau County Coroner pending an autopsy.
