EMPHASIS: 2013 Holiday DWI Enforcement Campaign

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the 2013 Holiday DWI Enforcement Campaign. The DWI enforcement campaign will commence on December 13, 2013, and continue through January 2, 2014. As part of this campaign, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop C, will conduct a DWI checkpoint and two DWI saturations. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop C, will also conduct a hazardous moving violation saturation and will participate in the fatality reduction effort on December 20 and 21, 2013, in Franklin and St. Charles counties.

Captain Johnson wishes to remind the public that impaired drivers killed 231 people and injured 3,984 in Missouri in 2012. That year, there were 762 fatal traffic crashes, of which, 215 or 28.2 percent, involved an alcohol- or drug-impaired driver. Those impaired drivers made a choice to endanger themselves and others. So far in 2013, alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers have killed 151 people and injured 2,019. Alcohol or drug impairment has accounted for 127 of the 523 fatal crashes in Missouri this year. The Missouri State Highway Patrol strongly encourages everyone to make the right choice: Drive Sober.

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
