EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces Selective Enforcement Operation

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that sometime during the month of March, troopers assigned to Troop I will participate in a special enforcement operation targeting drivers committing hazardous moving violations.

This particular operation will be conducted in Laclede County and will target violations that commonly cause traffic crashes. Statistics show that inattention is a contributing factor in many traffic crashes. Drivers who are not paying attention can cause their vehicles to cross the center of the roadway and travel directly into the path of oncoming traffic. In other situations, inattention will result in drivers allowing the vehicle they are operating to travel off the roadway. These drivers often panic and overcorrect, which causes loss of control and results in a traffic crash. The troopers assigned to this operation will target all violations, including those driving over the speed limit and driving while intoxicated.
Captain Remillard stated, “Our mission is to make our highways in the Troop I area, the safest in the state. Traffic crashes occur as a direct result of a variety of traffic violations. The safety of our motoring public relies on more than enforcement. In order to meet our goal, I am asking for every motorist to help. Please be safe, courteous, and conscientious as you travel upon our highways.”

In support of “The Drive To Zero Highway Deaths” the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
