EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of DWI Enforcement Saturation

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a DWI enforcement saturation in McDonald County on Saturday, August 15, 2015. The enforcement area was selected based on a high number of drinking- and impairment-related crashes, in addition to other traffic violations that contribute to unsafe driving behavior.

During the operation in McDonald County, troopers stopped 24 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation.

Felony DWI Arrests -- 2
Misdemeanor DWI Arrest -- 1
Speed Violations -- 3
Seat Belt Violations -- 7
Hazardous Moving Violations -- 4
Registration Violations -- 2
Driver License Violations -- 4
Insurance Violations -- 4
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrests -- 3

Troopers also issued 25 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.

In 2014, 205 people were killed and 3,458 injured in crashes involving an impaired driver. "The objective of DWI enforcement projects is to deter drinking and driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and impaired driving will not be tolerated," stated Captain Villanueva.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
