EMPHASIS: 20th Annual Corporal Michael E. Webster Memorial Blood Drive

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the 20th Annual Corporal Michael E. Webster Memorial Blood Drive. The blood drive will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, in the downstairs meeting room at Troop A Headquarters, Lee’s Summit. The blood drive is an annual event held to raise awareness about the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol. Cpl. Michael E. Webster was killed on October 2, 1993, by a drunk driver while standing next to a vehicle he had stopped for a traffic violation. The Patrol, along with the Community Blood Center of Kansas City, the American Red Cross, and Be The Match will host the statewide blood drive to emphasize the seriousness associated with alcohol-related traffic crashes. Blood is an essential element, which may help to save someone’s life that has been involved in a traffic crash.

Someone is killed or injured in an alcohol-related crash every two hours in Missouri. Alcohol was involved in 28% of all fatal crashes during 2012. Drunk drivers killed 229 people and injured 3,869 in Missouri traffic crashes last year.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the employees of Troop A would like to invite the public to come by Troop A Headquarters and donate blood. Anyone who would like to donate blood may stop by Troop A Headquarters or call (816) 622-0800 to schedule an appointment. For additional questions or to find other blood drive locations call Sergeant Collin Stosberg at Troop A or visit www.MEWEBSTER.org.
