EMPHASIS: Patrol Officers Arrest Felon On Texas Warrant

On February 29, 2008, Jeffery Len Bates, 47, of Salem, Missouri, was arrested by officers of the Missouri State Highway Patrol on a Harris County, Texas, warrant for felony failure to register as a sex offender. Bates was taken to the Shannon County Jail where he is currently being held without bond.
On February 27, 2008, the Missouri State Highway Patrol received information from Texas authorities that Bates had been a fugitive of the state of Texas since 2002, and was possibly living in the Shannon County, Missouri, area. During a subsequent investigation, Troop G officers learned that Bates was working near Eminence. This information resulted in Bates’ arrest at his place of employment, five miles north of Eminence. He was taken into custody, without incident, at 9:15 a.m., February 29, 2008.
The charge for which Bates was arrested is mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
