EMPHASIS: Troop I Encourages Safe Driving Over Labor Day Weekend

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that two special enforcement operations will be implemented during the upcoming holiday weekend. The traffic crash counting period for the Labor Day weekend will begin at 6 p.m., on Friday, August 31, 2012, and will end at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 3, 2012.
The 20-Mile Trooper enforcement project will once again be used to provide all available enforcement and reactive personnel on Interstate 44. Troopers assigned to this detail will patrol a specific 20-mile stretch of I-44 and work 12-hour shifts during the peak travel periods on both Friday, August 31, 2012, and again on Monday, September 3, 2012. Working in conjunction with the officers assigned to I-44 during these peak travel periods, will be troopers assigned to High Contact Enforcement Teams. Troopers assigned to these teams will patrol secondary highways and will also be strictly enforcing all traffic laws.
Captain Kenley stated, “For many Missourians, this holiday weekend will mark the last family outing of the summer months. In order for you and your loved ones to enjoy this time, you must place an emphasis on safety. Inattention, speed, and driving while impaired are contributing factors in most all crashes and each can easily be avoided. Please buckle up and drive as if your life and everyone else’s life depends upon you, because it does.”
