EMPHASIS: Labor Day Weekend Operations For Troop H

Captain Duane L. Robinson, commanding officer of Troop H, St. Joseph, announces two programs designed to reduce traffic crashes during the Labor Day holiday weekend. The holiday counting period will commence at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2011, and will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. Monday, September 5, 2011.

The “20-Mile Trooper” operation places a trooper every 20 miles on Interstate 35 to enforce all traffic laws and to assist motorists in need of help. This 12-hour program will be conducted on Friday, September 2, 2011, and again on Monday, September 5, 2011.

The C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) operation will be conducted on U.S. highways 36, 59, 65, 69, 71, 136, and 169 in the Troop H area. The C.A.R.E. operation is also designed to help keep the public safe by enforcing traffic laws with an emphasis on impaired drivers.

Captain Robinson stated, “Labor Day weekend marks the end of the summer season, and for many families this means traveling. Unfortunately, some motorists will risk their life and the lives of others by driving impaired."

Captain Robinson urges the public to report all impaired drivers. To report intoxicated drivers, motorists can use the Patrol’s emergency telephone numbers. They are 1-800-525-5555 or cellular *55.
