EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of Sobriety Checkpoint And DWI Saturations


Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted in Newton County and DWI saturations in Barry and Stone counties on August 22-24, 2013. The enforcement locations were selected based on their high number of drinking and impairment-related traffic crashes and the large number of contacts with drivers who have been intoxicated.

Officers from the three enforcement efforts stopped 617 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

Speed Violations -- 14
Seat Belt Violations -- 62
Child Restraint Offenses -- 8
Hazardous Moving Violations -- 11
Non-Moving Traffic Offenses -- 28
Driver’s License Violations -- 16
Uninsured Motorists Violations -- 9
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrests -- 8
Felony Warrant Arrest-- 1
Drug Arrests -- 5
Minor In Possession Violation -- 1
Other Misdemeanor Violations -- 11
Warnings -- 350

"The objective of DWI enforcement projects is to deter drinking and driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated," stated Captain Villanueva. The Missouri State Highway Patrol urges all citizens to report any vehicle they observe operating in a careless manner. The public can contact the Highway Patrol toll-free at 1-800-525-5555 or on their cellular phone at *55.

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
