EMPHASIS: Results Of Sobriety Checkpoint Conducted In Jackson County

Captain Vincent J. Ellis, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, announces the results of two sobriety checkpoints in Jackson County by members of the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The checkpoints were held at the intersection of 39th Street and Southwest Trafficway.
On May 25, 2007, a total of 800 vehicles were stopped. As a result of the checkpoint, one individual was arrested for driving while intoxicated, and 92 warnings were issued.
On May 26, 2007, a total of 564 vehicles were stopped. As a result of the checkpoint, seven individuals were arrested for misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and one individual was arrested for felony driving while intoxicated. Officers also made two seat belt arrests, one non-moving arrest, three misdemeanor warrant arrests, one felony drug arrest, and issued 86 warnings.
“Sobriety checkpoints are a valuable tool utilized by law enforcement to make Missouri highways a safer place to travel,” stated Captain Ellis. “Cooperation among law enforcement agencies and citizen reports of intoxicated drivers help in making our highways safe.”
