EMPHASIS: Student Alliance Program Conducted At Clinton High School
On March 26, 2008, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol completed a Student Alliance Program conducted at Clinton High School. The program consisted of troopers coming to the school, one day a week for four weeks. The interactive program gave the students a hands-on experience, which promoted good citizenship and showed them what career opportunities exist within the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Local zone members from the Missouri State Highway Patrol covered topics such as field sobriety testing, alcohol/drug impaired driving, and stop and approach. The stop and approach was a popular activity with the students. The students experienced conducting a car stop. During this stop, the student encountered a trooper in plain-clothes who was role-playing different scenarios. This gave the students an idea of what law enforcement officers are exposed to every day. Sergeant D.S. Nace of the Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control gave the students an education in crime scene investigation. Sergeant P.R. Davis, a member of the Patrol’s SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) Team, showed the students the various tools used in manhunts, arrest warrants, and search warrants. The students were able to see the Patrol’s armored vehicle.
The 10 students attending the Student Alliance Program were Michael Newland, Bobbie Burnett, Philip Burnett, Nick McNeely, Aaron Dunham, Andrew Snyder, Jordan Mothersbaugh, Emily Burke, Kaleb Eager, and Bobby Osman. Each student was presented with a certificate upon completion of the program.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol would like to recognize and thank Principal Frank Dahman, and Counselors Dixie Wirsig and Matt Perry. Without their cooperation and assistance this program would not have been a success.
