EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces Results Of Sobriety Checkpoint

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted in Crawford County on July 5, 2014. The checkpoint was conducted from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., on Missouri Highway 8, near the entrance to the Steelville City Park. During the course of the four-hour operation troopers stopped 1,635 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts during the operation:

DWI Arrests - 5
Seat Belt Violations - 6
Child Restraint Violations - 1
Hazardous Moving Violations - 3
Non-Moving Traffic Violations - 3
Driver’s License Violations - 4
Driving With Suspended/Revoked Driver’s License - 3
Uninsured Motorists Violations - 6
Misdemeanor Drug Violations - 1
Warnings - 34

Captain Remillard stated: “It was fortunate that our troopers were able to remove five impaired drivers from our highways before they needlessly injured or killed themselves, or an innocent victim. The results of this checkpoint also showed that some motorists still do not fully realize the seriousness of drinking and driving. Please help us make our roads safer by always making the wise decision to utilize a sober designated driver, if alcohol has been a part of your day.”
In support of “The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths,” the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!
