EMPHASIS: July Fourth Holiday Weekend Totals For Troop C

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the Independence Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop C area. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) and the "20-Mile Trooper" project. The 2011 Independence Day weekend traffic crash counting period began at 6 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2011, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, July 4, 2011. The combined totals of both projects resulted in Troop C officers investigating 75 traffic crashes, 10 of which were alcohol related. There were two fatalities. Enforcement totals include 589 speed citations; 242 seat belt and child restraint citations; 252 driver license, insurance, and registration citations; 82 other hazardous moving citations; and 78 other non-moving citations. A total of 987 warnings were issued during the counting period. In addition, 21 felony and 69 misdemeanors arrests were made. Troop C officers made 29 DWI arrests and assisted 312 stranded motorists.

"Our goal was to make travel on Missouri highways safer to the motoring public,” stated Captain Johnson. "Despite our two fatalities, I feel we accomplished this goal."
