EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint Conducted In Newton County

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Saturday evening, June 28, 2014. The checkpoint was held from 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, to 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 29, and was located at the intersection of Apricot Road and Coyote Road, south of Joplin. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes within Newton County.

A total of 898 drivers were checked during the four and one-half hour operation, and the following is a list of enforcement contacts:

Driving While Intoxicated -- 2
Seat Belt -- 11
Child Restraint Violations -- 2
Driver's License Violations -- 6
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest -- 1
Drug Arrests -- 3
Non-Moving -- 7
Warnings -- 44

In support of "The Drive to ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
