EMPHASIS: Trooper Fredrick F. Guthrie Jr. Funeral/Memorial Service


A visitation service for Trooper Fredrick F. “Fred” Guthrie Jr. and his Patrol K-9, Reed, will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 1600 North Missouri Highway 291(Interstate 35 & Missouri Highway 291), Liberty, Missouri.

The funeral/memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, and will be followed by a procession to the Knob Noster Cemetery in Knob Noster, Missouri.

Law enforcement officials attending are requested to wear class A or dress uniform.

On August 1, 2011, Tpr. Guthrie and his K-9 partner (Reed) were working in the area of Big Lake on Missouri Highway 118 at Missouri Highway 111 in Holt County, Missouri, when they were swept away by swift flood water. The following day, the body of K-9 Reed was located approximately 100 yards from where Tpr. Guthrie's Patrol truck and boat were located. The search for Tpr. Guthrie continues.

On September 28, 2011, Colonel Ronald K. Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, regretfully announced the official death of Trooper Frederick F. "Fred" Guthrie Jr., following court procedures recognizing his death.

Tpr. Guthrie leaves behind his wife, Teresa; children, Amber, Dylan, and Cody; and his parents, Fredrick Sr. and Betty Guthrie.

The family requests memorials to The MASTERS (Missouri Association of State Troopers Emergency Relief Society), 5287 Highway 67 North, Poplar Bluff, Missouri 63901.

Tpr. Guthrie was a combined 17-year-veteran of the former Missouri State Water Patrol and Missouri State Highway Patrol, Water Patrol Division. Tpr. Guthrie's K-9 partner, Reed, was a five-year-veteran with the Patrol. Tpr. Guthrie is the 30th member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to die in the line of duty.
