EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop On I-70 Results In Drug Seizure
On August 5, 2011, an eastbound 2009 Chevrolet HHR was stopped by a state trooper for a traffic violation on Interstate 70 at the 63 mile marker in Saline County, Missouri. Due to reasonable suspicion, including inconsistent statements on behalf of the driver, consent to search was requested and granted. A roadside search revealed approximately 109 pounds of marijuana located inside both rear quarter panels of the vehicle.
The driver, Lidia (X) Rivas, 38, of Kansas City, MO, was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and child endangerment. Rivas was transported to the Saline County Sheriff's Office.
The charge for which Rivas was arrested is mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
