EMPHASIS: July Enforcement Projects Scheduled For Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces several enforcement operations that will be conducted sometime during the month of July 2014.

Troop D officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints in Lawrence and Stone counties. These efforts will concentrate on highways which have been found to have a high number of alcohol-related crashes and enforcement contacts. The sobering fact is that impaired driving contributes to more than 30 percent of all Missouri fatal traffic crashes. Preliminary statistics indicate that in 2013, 239 people were killed and 3,608 injured in crashes involving an impaired driver. That’s why the Missouri State Highway Patrol will join other Missouri law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk driving throughout the month of July.

Additionally, the Patrol will be conducting a hazardous moving violation saturation in Greene County. The primary goal of this project is to positively impact traffic problems by reducing crashes. The objectives are to heighten the awareness of the risks associated with impaired driving and increase compliance of the speed limit and seat belt laws.

Finally, troopers will target impaired boat operators by conducting checkpoints and saturations on the Niangua River and Table Rock Lake. These projects will focus also on hazardous boating, minors in possession of alcohol, and enforcing drug laws.

In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
