EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop On Interstate 70 Results In Drug Arrests

On September 27, 2010, a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a 1995 Honda Civic traveling east on Interstate 70 in Saline County for a traffic violation. The driver, Joseph T. Satterfield, 22, of Cumming, Georgia, was stopped for exceeding the posted speed limit. During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the occupants and inside of the vehicle. The probable cause search resulted in approximately 22 pounds of raw marijuana being located in the trunk of the vehicle. Satterfield, Dwayne J. Pruitt Jr., 27, and Daniel P. Gibson, 33, all from Cumming, Georgia, were arrested for drug trafficking, and taken to the Saline County Jail.

The charge for which Satterfield, Pruitt, and Gibson were arrested is mere accusation and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
