EMPHASIS: Patrol Seeking Assistance With Recent Cattle Thefts In Southwest Missouri

Cattle theft in Southwest Missouri is on the rise with recent activity occurring in Northern Greene, Stone, and Dade counties. The Rural Crimes Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with local sheriff's departments, is asking for help from the public in reference to these thefts. The public is asked to watch for and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement. Suspicious activity may include, but is not limited to, trucks pulling stock trailers after dark, unfamiliar vehicles stopping near a field with the occupants looking closely at the cattle, or any unusual marking of fields. Thieves may mark a field using tape, plastic shopping bags tied to fences, or fresh spray paint markings on asphalt roadways.
Anyone who has observed suspicious activity or who has information pertaining to the recent thefts is urged to contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Rural Crimes Investigative Unit at (888) 484-TIPS(8477) or their local law enforcement agency. Tips may also be submitted online at www.morciu.org.
