EMPHASIS: Labor Day Enforcement Results For Troop C

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the Labor Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop C area. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) and the "20-Mile Trooper" project. The 2011 Labor Day weekend traffic crash counting period began at 6 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2011, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, September 5, 2011. The combined totals of both projects resulted in Troop C officers investigating 83 traffic crashes, seven of which were alcohol-related. Fifty-two people were injured with no fatalities. Enforcement totals include 760 speed citations, 211 seat belt citations, 257 driver license/insurance/registration citations, 137 other hazardous moving citations, and 66 other non-moving citations. A total of 1,162 warnings were issued during the counting period.

In addition, 14 felony and 59 misdemeanor arrests were made. Troop C officers made 27 DWI arrests and assisted 299 stranded motorists.

"The entire Troop C staff and personnel had another successful Labor Day weekend and with the outstanding results of these two projects, it shows how dedicated they are," stated Captain Johnson. "With our efforts, I hope the trend of declining highway deaths continue through the end of the year."
