EMPHASIS: Troop C Labor Day Weekend Totals

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the 2012 Labor Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop C area, which consists of the 11 counties in East Central Missouri. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), and as an added enforcement effort, conducted a 20-Mile Trooper operation on Interstate 70 and Interstate 44 on Friday, August 31, 2012, and Monday, September 3, 2012.
During the 2012 Labor Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2012, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, September 3, 2012, Troop C officers investigated 141 traffic crashes, resulting in zero fatalities. Preliminary enforcement totals show officers issued 379 citations for speed, 224 citations for seat belt violations, and 877 warnings, made 35 arrests for driving while intoxicated, and assisted 329 motorists.
“I would like to urge the motoring public in the greater St. Louis area to make every weekend a zero fatality weekend like the 2012 Labor Day holiday. Even though this major holiday period has ended, the Patrol asks motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain Johnson.
