EMPHASIS: Troop E Prepares For Independence Day Holiday Travel

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, Poplar Bluff, announces that on Thursday, July 3, and on Sunday, July, 6, 2014, Troop E officers will take part in the 20-Mile Trooper project in an effort to promote safety and to reduce the number of traffic crashes in the Troop E area. This means Troop E will assign a trooper every 20 miles on Interstates 55 and 57, and on other selected secondary roads. The objective of the project is to enforce aggressively all traffic violations which may contribute to unsafe traveling conditions, and to place a trooper in close proximity of motorists who may need assistance. The Patrol is committed to continuing to reduce crashes and fatalities through our education and enforcement efforts.

Captain Ridens said, “The July Fourth holiday is typically one of the heaviest traveled holidays in Missouri. I would like to urge all motorists to make sure safe driving is a part of your plans. Make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt, and never drink and drive. Should you be celebrating the holiday on the water, I want to remind everyone to ensure they are wearing an approved life jacket while in a vessel and don’t operate a vessel while drinking."

In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
