EMPHASIS: Highway Patrol Community Alliance Program Scheduled For Joplin Area

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces that the Missouri State Highway Patrol will be conducting a Community Alliance Program at Missouri Southern State University, beginning Thursday, September 18, 2014, and concluding on Thursday, October 23, 2014. The program is designed for those possessing a strong interest in learning about the Patrol's purpose and role within the law enforcement community. The Patrol is seeking responsible citizens, community leaders, professionals, and business associates who are willing to commit to a program that provides a unique opportunity.

The classes will meet on six consecutive Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m., at the Mills Anderson Justice Center on the campus of Missouri Southern State University. Successful completion of the program will require attendance at each Thursday session. One absence will be allowed with prior approval from the program coordinator. The curriculum will familiarize participants with several Patrol policies and procedures, utilizing teaching techniques similar to those experienced by troopers attending the Missouri State Highway Patrol Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City. These sessions will cover traffic stops, traffic crash investigation, firearms familiarization, SWAT operations, and many other aspects of the Patrol. Upon completion of the final session, a distinctive award will be presented to each successful participant.

The Patrol is accepting applications for the Community Alliance Program through September 5, 2014. There is no cost to participate in the program. The selection of 20 applicants will be based upon an evaluation of an application form and a criminal record check. Anyone interested in participating in the program can contact Sergeant Mike Watson at 417-359-1500 extension 4560.

In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!!
