EMPHASIS: OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T. To Be Held In St. Louis County

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, informs the public that an “OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T.” is scheduled in St. Louis County. “OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T.” will be an eight-hour operation, utilizing 10 state troopers. The enforcement effort will focus on one work/construction zone on Interstate 44 in St. Louis County. Operation P.R.O.T.E.C.T. will begin at 8 a.m. and continue to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2012.

“OPERATION P.R.O.T.E.C.T.” identifies and prioritizes construction/work zones with critical issues or problems affecting highway safety through complaints from the general public, highway/construction workers, law enforcement, and emergency responders, and takes into account recent crash statistics. In addition, a Zero Tolerance enforcement policy has been established for the operation as well as routine construction zone enforcement focusing on traffic violations, such as speed, following too close, other hazardous moving, and commercial motor vehicle violations. This zero tolerance policy directs troopers to take appropriate action on all observed traffic violations in construction/work zones by issuing uniform citations or warnings.
