EMPHASIS: Troop A Announces Memorial Day Weekend Enforcement And Crash Totals
Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop A area, which consists of 13 counties in west central Missouri. The enforcement operations included the All American Buckle-Up Week and Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort).
During the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash-counting period, which began 6 p.m., May 22, 2009, and ended at 11:59 p.m., on May 25, 2009, Troop A officers investigated 44 crashes, which resulted in one fatality, and 28 injuries. Troop A officers made 31 arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 338 citations for speeding, 164 seat belt summonses, 13 child restraint violations, and assisted 250 motorists.
During the period covering May 18, 2009 through May 25, 2009, the Patrol participated in the “All American Buckle-Up” campaign. As a result of the campaign, Troop A officers issued 247 seat belt summonses and 21 citations for failure to properly secure a child in a child restraint system.
Captain Powell stated, “Every day you get into a vehicle, you are at risk of being involved in a traffic crash. Please slow down, and pay attention to the job of driving. If you are going to drink, do not drive, and always make sure you and everyone in your vehicle is buckled up.”
