EMPHASIS: Troop F Announces Enforcement & Service Totals For July 4th Holiday

Captain Michael A. Turner, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, announces the 2015 July Fourth enforcement and service totals for the Troop F area, which consists of 13 counties in Central Missouri. From July 2, 2015 through July 5, 2015, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). As an added enforcement effort, Troop F officers conducted a 20-Mile Trooper operation on Interstate 70 on Thursday, July 2, 2015, and Sunday, July 5, 2015.

Preliminary enforcement totals indicate troopers issued 262 citations for exceeding the posted speed limit, 56 citations for seat belt violations, six citations for child restraint violations, and 1,226 warnings. Troopers also made 13 arrests for driving while intoxicated, eight arrests for boating while intoxicated, and 21 drug arrests. Troopers provided assistance to 535 motorists during the holiday period. Troop F officers investigated 65 traffic crashes in which one individual was killed and 16 were injured.

“Our goal is to make traveling on Missouri’s highways and waterways safe for everyone. Remember to do your part by obeying the laws in each these environments. Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists and boaters to continue to use the highest degree of care,” stated Captain Turner.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
