EMPHASIS: Randolph County Sheriff's Department & Missouri State Highway Patrol Investigating Infant Death

At approximately 4:15 p.m., on May 8, 2011, the Randolph County Sheriff's Department was called to respond to an area approximately two miles west of Higbee, Missouri, on Route H, in reference to a newborn infant found deceased in a duffle bag. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the reporting party who advised he had located and retrieved a duffle bag floating in a small pond and discovered it contained a deceased infant. The exact cause of death is unknown at this time.
Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control have been called to assist with the investigation. The body has been taken to the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy will be conducted.
Anyone who may have any information regarding the infant, or who possibly observed any suspicious activity in the Route H area, is asked to contact the Randolph County Sheriff's Department at (660) 277-5095. The investigation is ongoing by the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Randolph County Coroner.
