EMPHASIS: Troop B Officers Conduct "Trooper On The Train" Enforcement Operation

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announced on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, a “Trooper on the Train” enforcement operation was conducted in Macon, Shelby, and Monroe counties, in an effort to reduce the number of railroad grade crossing traffic crashes. During the special operation held in cooperation with the Burlington-Northern Santa Fe Railroad and Operation Lifesaver, a trooper was assigned to ride a Burlington-Northern Santa Fe locomotive to observe railroad grade crossing violations, and seven troopers were assigned at various crossings in the Clarence, Shelbina, and Monroe City, MO, areas. A Patrol aircraft was utilized to assist officers in detecting crossing violations. As a result of the enforcement program, three individuals were issued summonses for railroad crossing violations.
“Railroad crossings can be dangerous if motorists don’t pay attention,” stated Captain Wilt. “We encourage drivers to pay extra attention at crossings and know trains always have the right-of-way."
The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
