Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the results of DWI (driving while intoxicated) saturations conducted in Lewis and Monroe counties. The Lewis County saturation was conducted from 10 p.m. on June 12, to 2 a.m. on June 13, 2015. The Monroe County saturation was conducted from 10 p.m. on June 13, to 2 a.m. on June 14, 2015. During the enforcement operations, officers patrolled specific areas with a goal of detecting impaired drivers and other traffic violations that contribute to traffic crashes. As a result of the operation, officers made one felony arrest and issued 16 traffic citations and 39 warnings. The following is a list of traffic citations issued:
5 - Citations were issued for exceeding the speed limit.
1 - Citation was issued for careless driving.
5 - Citations were issued for seat belt violations.
2 - Citations were issued for following too close.
1 - Citation was issued for a hazardous moving violation.
2 - Citations were issued for insurance violations.
"The Patrol will conduct more traffic enforcement programs in the upcoming months," stated Captain Wilt. "The Missouri State Highway Patrol is very serious about removing the impaired driver from our roadways. If drinking is a part of your plans, choose a sober designated driver."
Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
